Northstar Gallery ... Great Selection of Cemetery Art

Interesting site: Northstar Gallery. Great photos by a person who photographs memorial and cemetery art from around the world. This project explores the conscious and unconscious themes and symbolic content of the art. At issue is of course man's struggle with transcendence and his own mortality. As the project progressed, he began to discover many very sensual images of beautiful young women depicted in the memorial art in the cemeteries Intriguing questions emerged around the significance of this particular art form in the cemetery. How is it that these very powerful images have come to offer solace at times of loss, what is the significance of the link between Thantos and Eros in this very powerful art form? These questions have launched an extended research project on the issue. The research continues, however to date the following information and insights have emerged. I would greatly welcome viewer comments on this work. It is my intent that this project will emerge as a book in the near future. To view more classic memorial art click here.

Beam Me Up Scottie .... The Star Trek Coffin and Urn

Space ... the final frontier . . .

For the millions of fans on our planet and beyond, the new line of STAR TREK urns, caskets, monuments and vaults will be an important discovery indeed. After ten movies and five television series, phrases like “Live long and prosper,” “Resistance is futile” and “Space: the final frontier” have become part of our global vocabulary.

Monuments and vaults will also debut next year. The Eternal Image STAR TREK line is licensed for sale in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Korea and Japan.

The first two products to debut will be the STAR TREK urns and caskets.

STAR TREK ™ Urn - The new STAR TREK Urn will feature a bold design reminiscent of the 24th century styling of the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet. Urns will be available beginning in mid-2008.

STAR TREK™ Casket - The STAR TREK Casket styling has been inspired by the popular “Photon Torpedo” design seen in STAR TREK II: The Wrath of Kahn. Caskets will be available beginning late 2008.

Schroeder of Peanuts Fame to be Honored!

Interesting and so very cooooool.... One of the 3 main buildings at Sonoma State University's new performing arts center may be named for Schroeder, the Beethoven-loving pianist of "Peanuts." The campus officials have proposed naming the 250 seat recital hall for the cartoon character because the widow of Charles M. Schultz donated $5 million toward the project which will be part of the Green Music Center (according to Susan Kashack of Sonoma State).

Jean Schultz, the widow of Charles Schultz sated that "I know Sparky would have enjoyed thinking about Schroeder's connection to such a grand hall and stage. Sparky was Charles Schultz nickname.

This IS A HAPPY STORY : ) and that ain't Peanuts : )

BibliOdyssey.... Cool art!

BibliOdysseyThough Paul, the curator of this fantastical blog, claims that he's "not a mysterious persona by intent," his site brims with baffling images and mesmerizing, inexplicable creatures. ("If it looks like I know anything then the mirrors are working.") In weekly or semi-weekly dispatches, this Aussie persona posts etchings, illustrations, posters, and other "visual materia obscura" from around the globe and across time. Machines brush up against monsters. Sartorial skeletons from one century pass Polish children's illustrations from another. A Russian illustrator indulges in "retro fantasy folk whimsy." Winged humans swoop overhead; rare Japanese medical texts sit in wonder; "zoomorphic" Sudanese calligraphy romps past. Elephants and tigers and bears, oh my! The Web is rich in snarky celebrity gossip and fast-breaking news, but a visit to Paul's cabinet of curiosities leaves us satisfied and enthralled. The mirrors are definitely working.

Art Caskets... SOOO COOOL... Original. Unique.

I have been looking at these caskets for years. Before, they only had a few selections. When I looked today, I was amazed to see the selections available now. This company has been in the casket manufacturing business since 1973 with locations in North Carolina, Texas, and Alabama. In February of 2003, they purchased the Art Casket line and are the exclusive manufacturer of the Art Casket. Art Caskets are sold only through their nationwide network of distributors. You can contact them at their toll-free number, 877-278-2275, for a distributor near you or simply check out the website here.

And in all seriousness, I am leaning towards the lighthouse casket. I love the look of it. It reflects my personality and .... it's just so different. They offer so many choices, ones for: Firemen, Military, Police, Golfers, Farmers and more. They really are worth checking out.
